Meet a Barista: Daniel

We’re featuring Daniel Vu, our barista extraordinaire, in the first of our “Meet a Barista” series. Some of you may know Daniel by his Bitter+Sweet moniker - the one-armed barista. If you don’t, well, ask him about it when you next see him.
Why coffee?
I like the coffeeshop environment; it’s relaxing, the job is fun and I get to meet tons of new people.
What’s your coffee drink of choice?
I love the cappuccino, as it has a great a balance of flavor, and is a light drink with not too much milk.
You’ve created a number of drinks in your coffee years. What’s your favorite creation?
It has to be the Red Velvet Latte, currently served at Bitter+Sweet as our specialty drink.
When you are not at work making delicious drinks, what would you be doing?
Mostly physicaly activities - hiking, rock-climbing, biking and playing video games (does that really count???). I also love photography and drawing.
Tell us about your culinary background.
I’ve always been interested in food, so I went to culinary school to learn more about making good food. Further down the road, I’m looking to open my own coffeeshop, so that experience will serve me well.

I am most proud…..of the way in which I overcame my hardships in my early years, and finally getting to a state where I am at peace with myself. Pretty happy with what I have accomplished in my life thus far.
The craziest thing I have ever done is…..spending Halloween weekend in Vegas to celebrate my friend’s 21st birthday. We were dressed up in Power Rangers costumes, and did some pretty crazy stuff. I’ll just leave it at that.
The stupidest thing I have ever done is…..break my arm!
If I weren’t a superstar barista, I would be…..a dog trainer as I simply love animals.
Okay, last question. How many hours can you go without drinking coffee before you get headaches?
